Early Life and Education

Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755, on the island of Nevis in the British West Indies. His father was a Scottish merchant, and his mother was a French Huguenot. Hamilton's parents died when he was young, and he was raised by his maternal grandparents.

Hamilton showed a talent for writing and public speaking at a young age. He attended King's College (now Columbia University) in New York City, where he studied law and politics. Hamilton quickly became involved in the American Revolution, and he served as a captain in the Continental Army.

The Federalist Papers

In 1787, Hamilton co-authored the Federalist Papers with James Madison and John Jay. The Federalist Papers were a series of essays that argued for the ratification of the Constitution. The Federalist Papers were widely read and influential, and they helped to persuade many people to support the Constitution.

The Duel with Aaron Burr

In 1804, Hamilton was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr. The duel was the result of a long-standing political rivalry between the two men.
